Wakefield
A developer bought this property to build a home for his family. The existing single-story 900 square foot house was demolished to build a 7,500 square foot new home. The house is three stories with a finished basement and plenty of yard space. However, from the front of the house, it looks and feels like a two-story home because the third story is a finished attic, and the basement is not seen. The kitchen contains a pantry and a butler’s pantry that connects to the formal dining room through a bridge.
The exterior aesthetics complement the character of the neighborhood, and the interior spaces are open with an abundance of natural light. The open staircase is at the heart of the home, with a large south-facing window on each floor, allowing natural light to illuminate the interior spaces. The window placements provide exterior views while moving throughout the house, making the interior spaces feel larger as the sight line continues to the exterior landscape. This is a large home, but the design made it feel like a typical two-story home in the neighborhood.
